Eildon House has strong community links, with many of the residents and staff coming from the local area. Families often comment on the welcoming atmosphere and the sense of familiarity that makes Eildon feel like home from the very first visit.
The home itself is a smart traditional stone terrace overlooking private playing fields, with the bustle of local walkers and cyclists passing by. From the first-floor lounge, residents enjoy inspiring views of the Edinburgh skyline and castle – a reminder of the city’s beauty right on the doorstep. Eildon House accommodates up to 22 residents and is managed with warmth and professionalism by Colette Parker and her dedicated team.
COMMUNITY
Eildon House has the feel of an extended family, with plenty of social interaction, laughter, and companionship. Many residents are from the surrounding area, and families appreciate how easy it is to visit. Although Eildon doesn’t have its own garden, the Royal Botanic Garden – Edinburgh’s largest and most famous – is at the end of the road, giving residents the chance to enjoy beautiful outdoor spaces whenever they wish.
The home has strong ties to the local nursery, with children visiting regularly for craft activities such as cake decorating and seasonal arts projects. Residents also join in with the Dean Life Club, which offers singing, games, and sociable activities – as well as opportunities to make new friends in the wider community. Annual highlights include our Christmas party, which brings together residents, families, and friends, and our regular visits from the local church. Nearby cafés also provide the perfect setting for relaxed afternoon teas and bar lunches.
ACTIVITIES
Life at Eildon House is active, engaging, and tailored to residents’ interests. Outings are chosen based on residents’ wishlists and arranged by our activity coordinator, Fiona. Favourite trips include the Royal Yacht Britannia, the National Museum of Scotland, and Edinburgh Zoo – always a delight for animal lovers.
Back at the home, residents look forward to weekly visits from Corran, our much-loved therapet black Labrador, who never fails to bring joy and companionship. Emma, our dance movement specialist, runs fun exercise sessions to classics like the Bay City Rollers, while quieter moments are spent enjoying arts and crafts such as painting and collage.
The south-facing patio is a real suntrap in summer and becomes a favourite gathering spot for tea, conversation, or simply soaking up the sunshine. Whether it’s through lively group activities, personal hobbies, or peaceful relaxation, residents at Eildon House enjoy a fulfilling and balanced lifestyle in a supportive, family-style environment.
