Eildon House has strong community links and many of the residents and staff are local to the area.
Eildon House is a smart traditional stone terrace building overlooking private playing fields, with lots of cyclists and walkers passing by. The first-floor lounge has inspiring views of the Edinburgh skyline and castle. The home has space for up to 22 residents and is managed by Lorena Brown and her team.
COMMUNITY
Eildon House feels like an extended family, with lots of social interaction and laughs. Many residents come from the local area and families appreciate how easy it is to get to. Although Eildon House doesn’t have its own garden, the Royal Botanic – Edinburgh’s biggest garden – is at the end of the road, giving residents plenty of opportunity to get out and about, especially in summer.
The home has good links with the local nursery, and children regularly visit for craft activities, including cake making and decorating. Residents also enjoy visiting the Dean Life Club for singing and sociable activities, including the chance to make new friends. We also hold a Christmas party which is popular with residents, family and friends, and have good links with the local church. Several cafés are nearby for afternoon tea and bar lunches.
ACTIVITIES
Residents at Eildon House enjoy a mix of outings and indoor activities. These depend on individual residents’ wishlists and are organised with the help of our activity coordinator, Fiona. Favourite outings include the Royal Yacht Britannia, the National Museum and the Zoo. Animal lovers also enjoy regular visits from our lovely therapet Corran the black Labrador, and his owner, Ali.
Other visitors include Emma, who visits once a week for dance movement and leg exercises to favourites such as the Bay City Rollers. Residents also enjoy quieter arts and crafts activities such as painting and collage, and the south-facing patio is a suntrap in summer.
