Pine Villa is a small, exceptionally friendly care home in Loanhead, south of Edinburgh, with strong links to the local community. The home is set within a traditional stone villa in a quiet residential area, with a leafy south-west facing garden that becomes a sunny haven during the warmer months.
Inside, the rooms are beautifully appointed, with a welcoming mix of shared lounge areas for socialising alongside cosy snugs for those who prefer peace and quiet. Pine Villa accommodates up to 19 residents, including three twin rooms, and is managed with warmth and dedication by Margaret Russell and her team.
We are incredibly proud to share that Pine Villa, one of our Mansfield Care homes, has been named one of the Top 100 Care Homes in the UK in the 2025 Lottie Awards. This national recognition is a true honour and a reflection of the commitment and care that defines our team at Pine Villa.
COMMUNITY
Pine Villa is a close-knit community where residents enjoy both lively social connections and supportive companionship. The home has vibrant links with local groups and activities, with favourites including tea dances, bingo and gatherings at Loanhead Miner’s Club. Residents also take part in arts and crafts with the cadet service, welcome frequent visitors from Loanhead Church, and enjoy relaxed cinema evenings complete with ice cream and popcorn.
There is a strong intergenerational connection too. Local nursery children regularly visit for library outings, walks and shared celebrations such as the Christmas party. Pupils from nearby schools also join the home for work placements, creating a warm sense of neighbourhood continuity. Families are always welcomed at Pine Villa, with regular visiting encouraged and seasonal events providing wonderful opportunities to gather together.
ACTIVITIES
Life at Pine Villa balances stimulating activities with restful moments. Popular outings include trips to Portobello and North Berwick beaches, museum visits, and the annual Christmas pantomime. From late spring through summer, the peaceful garden becomes a favourite gathering spot, where residents enjoy planting, maintaining flowerbeds, and attending the annual garden party with the local church. The garden’s sheltered seating makes it a year-round favourite for quiet conversation, fresh air, or simply enjoying the sunshine.
Many residents like to keep active with chair-based movement to music sessions, while staff also support personal interests, such as monthly swimming outings, library visits, and cinema trips. The activity programme is flexible and resident-led, meaning hobbies and preferences are always taken into account – whether that’s enjoying a crossword in the sunroom, playing cards with friends, or sharing memories over tea and cake.
