Choosing A Care Home | Mansfield Care Homes

Choosing a Care Home

Choosing a care home is a big decision, and it’s important to get it right and make sure you’ll be happy living in your new small community.

To find out if one of our Mansfield Care Group care homes is for you, come and visit, meet the staff, join us for lunch, and get to know us. Get a sense of the ambience and life of the home and discuss your needs and wishes with us.

We’ll also get to know you, and explain more about what we can offer.

All our care homes share the same ethos of highly personalised care led by residents’ needs and preferences. This applies to everything, including dining, rooms, activities and companionship.

Every resident is a unique individual, and each of our homes has a different character, so you need to experience it for yourself.

Here are some considerations to help you choose.

LOCATION
  • Are you looking for home in a central city location, or in a small town, perhaps local to you?
  • Do you, your friends or family need good transport links or parking nearby?
  • Do you want to live within easy reach of community friends or amenities outside the home?
  • Do you enjoy feeling part of the wider community, or prefer your privacy – or a mix?
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
  • Do you receive a warm welcome and feel a safe, comfortable and uplifting atmosphere?
  • Do the residents seem content and well cared for?
  • Are the surroundings clean, attractive and well looked after?
  • Are the staff professional, friendly and empathetic?
  • What’s the food like?
SURROUNDINGS
  • Are there spaces for sitting out and enjoying the sun or nice views?
  • Are the shared lounges and dining areas comfortable and uplifting?
  • Is there a good mix of sociable spaces and quiet corners?
  • Do you need good access for wheelchairs and frames?
  • Are the toilets in easy reach?
  • Are there places to go for walks?
INDIVIDUAL ROOMS
  • Are the rooms spacious enough for your needs?
  • Can rooms be adapted to suit your particular support needs?
  • Do the rooms have en suite toilets, bathrooms or tea-making facilities?
  • What furniture and personal possessions can you bring?
  • Do the rooms feel warm, comfortable and safe?
  • Does the home have a policy on pets?
ACTIVITIES
  • What support is offered for residents interested in community activities?
  • What activities are organised in the home?
  • What support is there if you want to pursue individual hobbies or interests?
  • How sociable do you need or want to be?
  • How much can family and friends get involved?

You’ll have lots of other questions, but the only way to get a real sense of each home is to experience it.
Call any of our care homes and come and see us!
