Argyll House is a light traditional stone building on three floors, and has a private patio garden which is well used in summer.
Argyll House is within easy reach of local shops and cafes, Kilmarnock FC, and Howard Park. Most of the residents come from Ayrshire, and many have strong community links. The home has space for 31 residents in the main house and modern purpose-built extension. It is managed by Jennifer Campbell and her team.
COMMUNITY
Argyll House is a warm and welcoming home with a lovely atmosphere. The central location makes it easy to keep in touch with community life, and the home has good links to the local churches, schools and nursery. We hold a non-denominational (C of S) service once a month in the home, and Catholic residents have access to Holy Communion if they choose.
Local school children visit residents for activities such as bookbug story reading, teddy bears’ picnic, nursery rhymes and eco projects such as litter picking. Other popular community visitors include entertainers who lead singing and dancing sessions with old time and Scottish music, and Bunny Luv therapets with their much-loved rabbits, guinea pigs and ducklings.
ACTIVITIES
Argyll House takes part in the CAPA (Care About Physical Activity) Care Inspectorate programme which helps older people to build more physical activity into their daily lives, improving strength, independence and resilience. So able residents take part in preparing and cooking meals, kneading bread, making cakes, pizzas and burgers alongside the chef. They make hanging baskets and grow fruit and vegetables such as rasps, lettuces and apples, which are used in cooking.
There is a resident’s committee which suggests outings, with favourite including tea dances at Dumfries House, and Rowallan Castle and the Park Hotel for afternoon teas. Residents have also enjoyed visits to the Scottish Maritime Museum and Rugby Park.
