Millfield House is a modern, purpose-built home in a conservation area close to Jedburgh Abbey and Mary, Queen of Scots House. The home is a welcoming, sensitively designed building with rooms for 23 residents. The rooms are big and bright, with some looking onto Mary, Queen of Scots gardens, others onto Millfield’s own garden. It has a lovely, homely feel and a sociable family atmosphere, and is managed by Ellen Spence and her team. Residents benefit from a supportive and professional staff group who take time to understand individual needs and preferences, ensuring everyone feels valued and cared for. The smaller size of the home also means people get to know each other well, creating a close-knit, family-style environment that many relatives find reassuring.
COMMUNITY
Many residents visit Jedburgh Day Centre twice a week, to catch up with local friends, have lunch, and play games and quizzes. The Day Centre and Health Centre are right next door and accessed through the Millfield garden, with residents having their own key. Community visitors include children from Parkside and Howdenburn primary schools as well as the Jethart Callant and his Lass, and we often welcome visiting friends and family. Many Millfield residents come from Jedburgh, others from further afield, and they have a mix of physical and some dementia support needs. The home is rooted in the local community and people enjoy many opportunities to socialise with others. Families are encouraged to be part of day-to-day life, and frequent visits from local groups, schools and organisations help residents stay connected to the town they know and love. This strong link to Jedburgh is one of the reasons Millfield feels so personal and familiar for those who live here.
ACTIVITIES
Activities at all Mansfield Care Group homes are resident-led and organised by the wellness coordinator. Jedburgh is a pretty town that attracts tourists, and residents enjoy visiting local attractions such as Teviot Smokery, Edinburgh Woollen Mill and nearby cafés. Many also enjoy visiting music concerts, quizzes and singing, as well as traditional Scottish cooking. The secluded garden leads off from the shared lounge and is well used for sitting out in summer. Regular seasonal events, from summer garden gatherings to festive celebrations, add variety to the calendar and give families extra opportunities to join in. Residents are also encouraged to pursue personal hobbies and interests, whether that’s gardening, crafts, reading, or simply enjoying quiet moments with friends.
Millfield House is more than just a care home, it is a place where people feel at home, surrounded by warmth, companionship, and a strong sense of belonging. With excellent standards of care, a trusted and experienced team, and an active community spirit, residents and their families can feel confident that every day is supported, meaningful, and enjoyable.
