Peebles Chinese New Year Table

Peebles Care Home celebrates Chinese New Year

Posted on 15 February 2020

Good food is a big part of life at Mansfield Care Homes, and we have fantastic chefs at each home, who enjoy making special meals for different residents’ tastes and occasions.

International themed days are regularly on the menu, as residents look forward to them and find them stimulating. As Peebles Care Home Wellness Coordinator Gemma reports, this year their chef excelled himself with a Chinese New Year feast, while staff decked the room in Chinese decorations and flowers.

“We thoroughly enjoyed our celebrations for the Chinese New Year on 8th February,” says Gemma. “As one of our relatives, Elspeth Mackay, said: “we were all transported to China!”.

“Our dining room was decorated in an elegant Oriental theme; with pink-hued Chinese lanterns cascading from the ceiling, fragrant oriental lilies sweetening the air and a calming soundtrack of traditional oriental sounds lending a sense of Eastern tranquillity.”

“Red and gold blended beautifully to form a stimulating colour palette and everyone appreciated the novelty touches of chopsticks and towelettes, alongside individual gifts of fortune cookies.”

“Our chef devised a tempting menu of classic Chinese meals, served with prawn crackers, and followed by banana fritters and toffee sauce for dessert. Afterwards, we each enjoyed a glass of fizz listening to the wild stormy weather blowing outside”.

Many thanks to Mansfield Care Homes staff for the lovely photos.
