Advent time at Mansfield Care Homes

Posted on 22 December 2021

Festive preparations have been in full swing across Mansfield Care during Advent time.

At St John’s Care Home in Melrose, the residents have been busy making clove oranges, a gingerbread house and sweetie cones. The Christmas tree has also been beautifully lit and decorated, and residents have been cheered up by the Christmas sounds of Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby in the sitting room.

St John’s volunteer Rebecca kindly baked gingerbread biscuits and made Christmas cards for each resident, which were much appreciated. St John’s also had a lovely visit from Melrose Primary School students, who sang Christmas carols outside the sitting room bay window, which had all the residents singing along!

At Peebles Care Home, the residents have also enjoyed the sound of music with Christmas carols from the Peebles Singers, a 25-strong choir. The singers braved the cold and sang a range of festive favourites, while residents watched the performance from indoors.

Peebles Care Home Activities Coordinator Claire said, “Visits such as the Peebles Singers choir are very popular with our residents. We were delighted to host the choir and it was great to see how much everyone enjoyed it.”

The choir’s musical director Jim Murdoch said, “All of our members have been really looking forward to performing for Peebles Care Home. My father was a resident here, so for me it’s great to give a little back to the people who supported him. It was a joy to see the residents sing along to the carols, as well as see the choir come together again. We are a community group and it’s really nice to be able to come together and sing to the local residents.”

Many thanks to Holyrood PR and Mansfield Care Homes staff for the lovely photos.
