Autumn events at St Johns

Posted on 08 November 2021

Autumn brings lovely colour and seasonal celebrations to Mansfield Care Homes, none more so than St John’s Care Home in the Scottish Borders.

Set in a large mature garden, St John’s is lucky enough to have its own fruit trees, which means that the residents can enjoy the tastes of autumn, as well as the sights and sounds. St John’s chef makes the best of this with tasty desserts from the apples, pears and berries collected on the doorstep. Wellness Coordinator Denise says: “The garden is magnificent and our residents love the changing colours in autumn. Many of the residents’ rooms look onto the garden, and those that are less mobile can still enjoy the seasonal changes. Our carers and residents enjoy walking in the garden at this time of year. It’s magical.”

Along with the other homes, St John’s Care Home has a long tradition of celebrating Hallowe’en. The residents enjoy the pumpkins and decorations, and this year their relatives were once again able to join them. Wellness Coordinator Denise says: “I love dressing up and decorating the care home with pumpkins and other Hallowe’en-inspired objects! This year I was helped by Rebecca, a local volunteer, who blew up the balloons and played some balloon football with one of our residents.”

All in all, the day was a great chance for residents and their visiting family and friends to get together and enjoy Hallowe’en cakes and tea.

Many thanks to Mansfield Care Homes staff for the lovely photos.
