Birthdays and Barbecue at Mansfield Care Homes
Posted on 28 June 2020
Mansfield Care Homes have been celebrating the start of summer in the garden with residents’ birthdays and an Australian-themed barbecue.
Resident Bert enjoyed a socially distanced visit from his daughter and son-in-law, who joined in singing happy birthday as well as with afternoon tea and birthday cake. Bert used to play clarinet and loves his music, so it was time for a group singsong.
Bet Gordon also celebrated her birthday in June, this time with individual cupcakes and a karaoke singsong. Residents enjoyed singing cheery Scottish songs and songs from the war years.
The good weather in June has also been a chance to make the most of the Belleville garden, which has plenty of space for socially distanced companionship. So last week, it was time for an Australian-themed day, with a summer barbecue of burgers and sausages, Australian flags and a singsong including Waltzing Matilda. Belleville Lodge Matron Margaret Russell says small distanced gatherings are playing a vital part in keeping up everyone’s spirits and giving a focus for reminiscence, chat and connection.
Many thanks to the staff at Belleville Lodge for the lovely photos.
