Bringing Generations Together at Pine Villa Care Home

Posted on 19 April 2023

Mansfield Care homes play an important role in their local communities and Pine Villa in Loanhead is no exception. The care home and Loanhead Primary School are next-door neighbours and have nurtured an inter-generational relationship over a number of years, with nursery children usually visiting once a week to take part in activities with Pine Villa residents.

Recently, a group of Pine Villa residents enjoyed a spring-themed Daffodil Tea at the nursery, followed by songs from the children.

Mansfield Care’s manager at Pine Villa, Margaret Russell says: “We have close ties with the nursery and the children visit every week to spend time with our residents on craft activities, singing and playing games. Both the staff at Pine Villa and at the nursery work to bring everyone together to promote friendship through the ages, in line with ‘Bringing Generations Together’, the Care Inspectorate’s publication of good practice.”

Pine Villa residents Rena, Molly, Margaret, Jim and Liza recorded their reactions to visiting the nursery and the children’s trips to the care home.

“We just love them”.

“Cheers us all up no end”.

“Always a pleasure to have them round”.

“What a treat!”.

“Look forward to them coming in to entertain us and giving us all a cuddle”.

“Great to see their smiling wee faces again today!”

Pine Villa manager Margaret said: “Both our residents and the children just love spending time together. The nursery has made a book of photos and the children have expressed how much they enjoy visiting the home. Age doesn’t mean a thing when the elderly and children get together.”

Thank you to Mansfield Care staff for the lovely photos.
