Dog and Bird Tales at Mansfield Care

Posted on 18 January 2021

Lots of Mansfield Care residents love animals and birds and they play an important part in residents’ wellbeing. Matron Margaret says Belleville Lodge is lucky to have a wee West Highland terrier, Sophie, who lives in the care home and is much loved by everyone. Recently, residents have also enjoyed reminiscing about favourite dogs and birds, and finding out interesting facts about them.

Some of the residents have had a dog in the past and they shared stories with the group. “Everyone enjoyed looking at the photographs,” Margaret says. “Jean had a Red Setter called Sam, while Mardie had a black Labrador called Bruce and Anne had a Sheltie called Sally. We also discovered that a dog’s equivalent to a human fingerprint is on their nose. Just as no two humans have the same fingerprint, no two dogs’ noses are the same.”

The residents also enjoyed a talk about birds and wildlife in the garden, and discussed their favourites. “They said it was good to see wildlife in the centre of town and learn about nesting, bird eating habits, and how birds migrate to warmer climates in the winter to escape the harsh Scottish weather”.

Everyone is looking forward to seeing the return of Spring and feeding the garden birds.

Many thanks to the Mansfield Care residents and staff for the lovely photos.
