Easter brings everyone together at Peebles Care Home
Posted on 25 April 2024
Everyone plays their part in celebrating Easter at Mansfield Care Homes, from residents and staff, to giant rabbits and visitors of all ages!
This year’s Easter activities at Peebles Care Home kicked off on the Thursday with a visit from Priorsford primary school pupils, who have a long-running partnership with the care home. School pupils from Primary 4 at Priorsford usually visit once a week to share their learning with the residents through reading and other activities.
“Our residents love to welcome the youngsters into the home. It’s a great collaboration and enlivening for everyone!” says Karen Ritchie, Peebles Care Home activity coordinator.” As a ‘thank you’ to the pupils the residents organised a special Easter egg hunt with the help of the Easter Bunny. Each youngster partnered up with one of the residents and searched the garden for the hidden Easter eggs, bringing their eggs back to the residents indoors.”
Peebles Care Home residents were also busy making Easter egg cakes with chocolate and rice krispies to give to the visiting youngsters. “Baking is a really popular activity with our residents,” says Karen. “Everyone has stories and memories around cooking and sharing food, so there’s always lots of chatting when we’re in the kitchen.”
Other activities over Easter included making greetings cards for relatives and friends, with residents either painting cards or printing them with Easter designs. Easter Sunday saw the surprise return of the Easter Bunny, visiting the residents with gifts of chocolate eggs. A special themed session of Easter picture bingo rounded off the celebrations for this year. Activity coordinator Karen says, “I love my job, and if I’m enjoying it, then hopefully the residents are too!”
Thank you to Mansfield Care staff for the lovely photos.
