Eildon House wedding

Eildon House celebrates romantic remarriage

Posted on 23 October 2019

More than 30 years after they first married, Eildon House resident Colin Mclean and his wife Helen have renewed their wedding vows in a romantic ceremony at the care home.

The happily married Corstorphine couple decided to invite the minister to bless their wedding rings after parting from them briefly to get them refitted. It was the first time they’d removed them since their wedding day, so they took the opportunity to celebrate their return with an intimate ceremony at Eildon House. The private blessing was attended by Colin’s daughter and a family friend, with a reception held afterwards with residents and staff in the dining room.

“It was a first for us, and probably for Mansfield Care” said Fiona, the Eildon House activities coordinator. “It was such a lovely happy day for both Colin and Helen, and something a little bit different for the residents and everyone at the home to enjoy”.

The couple chose to have their marriage ceremony in the first floor lounge, with its dramatic views of the Edinburgh skyline. “We decked the room with red roses, balloons and confetti and it was a lovely intimate blessing for Colin and Helen,” said Fiona.

“The care home staff were delighted to be involved,” says Eildon House manager Lorena. “Our chefs, George and Carlos, did us proud with a lovely buffet including favourite chicken and curry pasties, veggie nibbles, salads and desserts. And there were two beautiful wedding cakes! It was a memorable day for everyone and we’re delighted that Colin and Helen chose to hold their special blessing here.”
