Enjoying the St John’s Gardens in Melrose
Posted on 16 September 2020
Residents at Mansfield Care Homes have appreciated being able to use their private gardens during lockdown, especially during the better weather. Residents at St John’s Care Home in Melrose have enjoyed some wonderful warm days and times during the summer and autumn, says Wellbeing Coordinator Denise.
”The residents have really enjoyed the flowers, especially our cream roses and lavender. They’ve been captivated by the splendour of autumn, with the changing of the leaves, which they’ve been grateful to witness on some days.”
Melrose has had a great apple harvest this year, and the chef has made the most of it with apple desserts, says Denise. “Our fruit is now ripe, and everyone has enjoyed being shown the apples, red and ripe, and knowing that our cook uses them in the baking for the home. We also have pears and a walnut tree, which are also used in our kitchen.”
The views and chance to be safely outdoors have been particularly appreciated during this lockdown time, says Denise. “Some of our residents know and love the Eildon Hills, and we have a beautiful view of them from the back of the home. We have residents that have walked the hills at some or other time in their lives, and it’s a treat for them to see them from time to time on a lovely, clear day.”
“Besides our wonderful days in the garden, our residents have also been enjoying painting glass, colouring and painting pictures. There has always been something to keep them busy, including focused activities like mazes, colouring in, reminiscing, word searches, puzzles and games.”
Many thanks to the staff at St John’s Care Home, Melrose, for the lovely photos.
