Happy Valentine’s Day from Mansfield Care

Posted on 23 February 2023

Regular events and celebrations are a key activity at Mansfield Care Homes, where they help give residents, family, friends and staff landmarks on the calendar to look forward to each month. Although February can sometimes be grey and chilly, nothing brightens it up more than Valentine’s Day in the company of loved ones, good music and delicious food!

Residents at Pine Villa in Loanhead were busy for several weeks before this year’s celebration, taking part in arts and crafts sessions, where they made decorations and Happy Valentine’s Day letters. With Pine Villa resplendent in paper hearts and red roses and with invitations sent out to everyone’s relatives, the scene was set for a memorable afternoon.

Guitarist and singer David Hood is a popular and regular visitor to Pine Villa, where his monthly singalongs get everyone involved. On Valentine’s Day, David provided the musical entertainment, singing a variety of songs that everyone knew and could join in with.

No Valentine’s Day would be complete without lovely food, and Pine Villa’s kitchen laid on a suitably themed afternoon tea with chocolate love hearts and delicious strawberry tarts.

Pine Villa Manager Margaret Russell said that it was a very sociable event with lots of relatives present: “For me, the highlight of the day was seeing everyone’s faces light up when the music started. Music plays such a huge part for residents, and especially those living with dementia who continue to enjoy songs and tunes. After the event, it was lovely to receive cards from many of the relatives thanking everyone for helping to make it such an enjoyable afternoon.”

As March draws near, plans are well in hand for the next event in the calendar with an abundance of four-leaved clovers, greenery and leprechauns!

Thank you to Mansfield Care staff for the lovely photos.
