Belleville Ve Day Remembrance

Mansfield Care Homes celebrate VE day 75th Anniversary

Posted on 28 May 2020

The 75th anniversary of VE Day was on 8th May, and residents at some of the Mansfield Care Homes marked the occasion with reminiscence and traditional afternoon tea. Matron Margaret from Belleville Lodge sent this update.

“At Belleville Lodge, we celebrated VE Day in style. The home was decorated with bunting and flags, and we enjoyed everything British throughout the day.”

“Everyone enjoyed traditional fish and chips for lunch, served in newspaper, and followed by a British celebration trifle. We also laminated old photos from VE day and used them as placemats.”

“In the afternoon, we had a reminiscence session, and everyone enjoyed sharing their stories of VE day, and where they were when they heard the glorious news that the war was over.”

“In the afternoon, we all enjoyed a good old-fashioned afternoon tea with savouries and cakes, and a sing-along of all the old songs from the war time. Vera Lynn was a firm favourite.”

“This was all done while observing social distancing, but we still had a great time.”

Many thanks to Mansfield Care staff for the lovely photos.
