Millfield Billiards

Millfield House billiard boys and country theme nights

Posted on 30 November 2020

Residents Bill and Alex at Millfield House in Jedburgh have been missing their regular outings to the local billiards club during the pandemic, so staff have a games area with billiard table so that they can keep up their interest.

Senior Carer Rebecca says, “Bill and Alex used to go out to their club every Monday night. It was great because it gave them something fun to look forward to. They enjoyed their hobby and were able to maintain independence, with the help of a tracker. Social distancing made it impossible for them to go out, so we decided to do something about it, and organised a billiard table for the care home.”

She says the billiard boys have been using the table a lot – at least every other day. “The two men really enjoy it – it has helped greatly to keep their spirits up. Some of the other residents may be tempted to have a go, too – we’ll see!”

Meanwhile, Rebecca says Millfield House staff have also been organizing regular theme nights based on different countries. “Residents enjoy them because it’s a chance to discuss memories, show and tell, and try different kinds of food. Our chef prepares some specials from the country and we have themed table decorations, music and reminiscence.” Recently, the residents have enjoyed virtual visits to Canada, Poland, and Spain, and have shared memories of visits and friends in other countries.

The care home has also celebrated several birthdays, with Pat turning 73 and Val celebrating her 80th birthday in November.

Thank you to Rebecca for the lovely photographs.
