Peebles Care Home residents celebrate Chinese Year of the Dragon

Posted on 16 February 2024

International themed events are a regular feature in Mansfield Care Homes, as residents look forward to them and find the activities and accompanying food stimulating.

In preparation for Chinese New Year festivities, Peebles Care Home‘s residents tried their hand at Chinese calligraphy. The activity required patience and skill and the results were beautiful in their simplicity of colour and form.

“On Saturday, we decorated the home with posters and Chinese lanterns.” says Karen Ritchie, Peebles Care Home activity coordinator. The red and gold of the new year decorations blended harmoniously to set the scene for a celebratory meal, prepared by Peebles Care Home’s chef.

There was a tempting menu of classic Chinese food. “Everyone enjoyed Chinese pork noodles and chicken fried rice, accompanied by prawn crackers and rice cakes,” says Karen. “Some residents even tried chopsticks!”

Later in the day. to mark the new Year of the Dragon the residents drew Chinese dragons as well as tackling a China-themed crossword and wordsearch.

Thank you to Mansfield Care staff for the lovely photos.
