Peebles Care Home’s green-fingered residents are blooming good
Posted on 01 August 2022
Mansfield Care Homes have their own gardens, and many of the residents are keen gardeners who continue to enjoy their passion with the support of care home staff. At Peebles Care Home, some of the residents have taken advantage of the good summer weather to get outside and plant up gaps in the flower borders.
Peebles’ regular gardener helped to order a variety of colourful perennials including dwarf rose varieties and daisies to fill spaces in the raised borders, while residents Zeta, Alan, Nancy and Jean got busy with trowels and watering cans to ensure the plants were given the proper conditions for healthy growth.
Activity Assistant Karen Ritchie said: “So many of our residents have gardening experience that gardening activities are always popular. There are so many positive aspects to gardening, from the seasonal changes to its hands-on nature. Everyone can see the results right away, and there’s a need for monitoring and ongoing tasks like watering. We also run weekly flower-arranging sessions which are very popular.”
The new plants are now flourishing under the careful watch of Peebles Care Home’s green-fingered residents.
Many thanks to Mansfield Care Homes staff for the lovely photos.
