Teddy Bear take-over at Belleville Lodge

Posted on 15 October 2021

Mansfield Care Home residents at Belleville Lodge in Edinburgh recently enjoyed a special Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

Everyone brought along their own favourite bears and soft toys and chatted about them and the other toys that they had when they were young,  as well as the toys that their children played with when they were growing up.

Although teddies were in the majority there was also a toy dog present as well as ‘Snuffles’, a charming knitted black cat.

No Belleville Lodge picnic would be complete without tea and home-made cakes from the in-house kitchen and everyone tucked in while learning some of incredible facts about Teddy Bears. The most surprising discovery was that most expensive teddy ever sold was a Steiff Louis Vuitton Bear, valued at nearly 2 million pounds.

Belleville Lodge Matron Margaret Russell said, “There were lots of smiles and everyone enjoyed holding and touching the soft toys and passing them around for a cuddle. One of the highlights of the day that made everyone happy was to see all the teddies and soft toys lined up together for a portrait photo. We all joined in to sing along to “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic” and everyone, both staff and residents, agreed that we’d had a lovely afternoon.”

Many thanks to Mansfield Care Homes staff for the lovely photos.
