Creative Happiness at Mansfield Care Homes

Posted on 24 April 2020

St John’s in Melrose and Galahill House are two of the Borders care homes taking part in the Creative Happiness Project, bringing together young artists and their families with care homes around the Scottish Borders.

St John’s Wellbeing Coordinator Denise says the residents got involved in the project to cheer themselves up and help maintain links with the local community. “Isolation is a big concern and children at home are needing fun and interactive creative activities to get involved in. The project encourages families and children to make posters together for the vulnerable and elderly in the community, and post them to care homes.”

“The residents at Melrose have been particularly interested because we have a lot of talented artists and former teachers. Doris, Eleanor and Graham were painters and some of their work is hanging on the walls in their rooms. So they’re very creative, and interested in the children’s artwork.”

St John’s and Galahill Care Home have close ties with the Volunteer Centre Borders, the community organisation which is running the initiative.

Many thanks to Mansfield Care staff for the lovely photos, and to Borders children for the beautiful cheerful artwork.
